A straight answer from a local owner. Typical price ranges, what drives the cost up or down, and why the cheapest quote is almost never the right one.

How Much Does a Home Security System Cost in Oklahoma in 2026?

One of the first questions I get asked, right after "are you local?", is "how much does this cost?" I always want to give a straight answer, so this post is my honest attempt to lay out what a home security system really costs in Oklahoma in 2026, without the sales games.

The short answer

For a typical Oklahoma home, you should expect to invest somewhere in the range of $0 to $1,500 up front for equipment and professional installation, plus $30 to $60 per month for professional monitoring.

That is a wide range, and there is a reason for it.

What drives the price up or down

  • Size of the home. A 1,200 square foot house needs fewer door and window sensors than a 3,500 square foot house with four exterior doors.
  • New or existing system. If you already have an older alarm with hardwired sensors, we can often reuse them. That alone can save you several hundred dollars.
  • Cameras. A single video doorbell is a very different project than a six camera setup covering an acre lot.
  • Smart home add ons. Locks, thermostats, garage control, lighting, and shades all add to the up front cost, but they also give you back the most in daily use.
  • Monitoring features. Basic professional monitoring is on the lower end of the monthly range. Adding video monitoring, cellular backup, and full app control brings it up.

Why "free installation" offers usually are not

When you see an ad for a free alarm system, what you are really seeing is a three year contract that bakes in the cost of equipment plus a healthy margin. Break that contract early and you typically owe 75 to 100 percent of the remaining months. That is fine if you know it is the deal going in, but a lot of homeowners do not.

At SoSmart, we do not require long contracts. You own your equipment, and you can leave any time. I would rather earn your monthly fee every month than lock you in.

What your monthly monitoring fee should include

A real, competitive monitoring plan in Oklahoma should cover:

  • 24/7 professional monitoring from a UL-listed, TMA 5 Diamond center.
  • Cellular backup so your alarm still works if the internet is down.
  • App control with arm and disarm from your phone.
  • Real time alerts to everyone on the account, not just the main contact.
  • Two way voice so our monitoring center can talk to someone in the home the moment an alarm trips.

If a quote does not include cellular backup, keep asking. Without it, a bad actor can defeat the alarm by cutting the internet. That is the kind of shortcut that makes the monthly cheaper but leaves a very real gap.

What a typical SoSmart quote looks like

A common SoSmart install in the Oklahoma City metro includes a Qolsys IQ Panel 4 (touchscreen with a built in camera and Z-Wave hub), three to five door and window sensors, one motion detector, one smoke detector, and a smart door lock or video doorbell. That comes in around $800 to $1,200 installed for most homes, with monitoring starting at $39.99 a month.

We also have a zero down option if a homeowner wants to roll equipment into a longer term agreement. It is not our default, and it is not right for everyone, but it exists for folks who need a lower up front cost.

Three things I would tell my own family

  1. Get two quotes. One from a national company and one from a local company. Pay close attention to what is different.
  2. Ask what happens on day 366. Your warranty, your ownership of the equipment, and your contract should all be crystal clear.
  3. Buy reliability, not features. Two way voice and cellular backup matter more than the number of gadgets on the panel.
